Winter Home Improvement Tips!

  • Keep humidity levels lower as the temperature drops and keep window treatments open as much as possible.
  • Clean or replace furnace filter as needed.
  • Check hot water heater for mineral build up.
  • Clean range hood filter.
  • Check smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Occasionally open a couple of windows for about 10 minutes to help air quality and prevent moisture build up.
  • Clean faucet aerators.
  • Pour water in floor drains to maintain the trap’s water barrier.
  • Check outside vents (dryers, bath exhaust fans, furnaces, etc.) to make sure they are working properly and free of frost, snow, and debris.
  • With an older home that is not well insulated, a professional should remove the snow from the roof to prevent shingle damage and ice dams from forming.
  • Avoid walking or driving on the lawn without snow cover.
  • Keep egress windows free and clear of snow and debris.
