Construction Foreman Job Description
The purpose of the Foreman is to lead your crew and work closely with the subcontractors to ensure each project is completed to the highest quality standards in the industry, on time and on (or under) budget. It is imperative to keep in contact with the Owner/President, management, client, subs, suppliers and inspectors through each step of the project, to make sure all details and changes meet the needs of the client as the work progresses. It is also of the utmost importance to fully resolve any problems professionally and on a timely basis to further positive working relationships among all persons involved in the project.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Foreman is responsible for all phases of actual construction as it takes place and to create a specific work schedule and timeline for completion.
- Plan a strategy for the completion of projects with everyone involved and update completion report weekly or daily if needed.
- Assigning daily task to employees on the job site and explaining in detail why, how and what is expected of them to keep the job progressing as planned.
- To consciously carry out the directives of the Owner/President exactly as requested.
- Keep in contact with the Owner/President for a clear interpretation of the building plans, specifications, etc. and to answer any questions or doubts about proceeding with the work.
- Check in with the office before the end of each day and report job progress and status.
- Physically helping your crew with the work as needed, constantly providing leadership and direction to keep the work steadily progressing on schedule.
- Work with your crew and the subcontractors to keep the morale up at all times.
- The Foreman is in charge of calling for all inspections to be completed.
- Check all work for accuracy and compliance with plans, specs. and change orders.
- Obtain change orders and pricing in writing and determine how it will affect the cost and time of the project.
- Account for any job delay because of change orders.
- Determine long lead-time items and potential delays and schedule appropriately.
- Keep the Owner/President informed in a timely manner of any deviation from the established schedule or cost estimates.
- Recommend cost saving measures, minimize incidental expenses and provide input on how to be more efficient.
- Make sure all products and supplies used from the shop are inventoried to job
- Make sure that subcontractors are supplied with two weeks written notice prior to commencement.
- Stay in daily contact with major subcontractors and the customer.
(i.e. nails, screws, lumber, etc.) and power equipment usage is charged to the job as an hourly rental.
- Check in all materials delivered to the job site and make sure they are properly stored.
- Monitor job site cleanliness and organization, making sure it meets OSHA and all other safety standards.
- Responsible for all job site safety as per DGC / HCP safety policies.
- Bring all mistakes, losses and accidents to the immediate attention of the Owner/President.
- Keep cell phone turned on and within hearing distance at all times on the job sites and during travel time.
- Completely review schedules daily and update weekly to keep work progressing on time and in budget.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Trade school diploma or equivalent training in the field.
- 6-8 years experience in light commercial construction and pre-engineered metal buildings.
- 6-8 years experience in residential building and remodeling.
- The ability to lead a group of employees and coordinate subcontractors to perform high quality work, on time and on (or under) budget.
- To own and maintain an expanded set of tools, beyond the basic tools required by DGC/HCP.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 90 lbs., climbing ladders, scaffolding, crawling into confined spaces, operating commercial power tools and equipment, etc.
- All body senses of sight, speech (English) and hearing are required.
- Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Must have valid drivers license and be insurable per insurance company underwriting requirements
- Must pass pre-employment drug test.
